The HLA B27 Strip test allows the determination of the HLA B27 alleles.

This group of alleles has been associated with a wide range of pathologies such as ankylosing spondylitis (88-95% of patients), acute anterior uveitis (50-60% of patients), reactive arthritis (60-85% of patients), and inflammatory bowel disease (50-60% of patients).

Ankylosing spondylitis (or ankylosingspondylarthritis, AS) is a chronic, disabling rheumatic disease, more common especially in white people (0.5-1% of the population). It usually appears in males between 20 and 30 years of age.

Acute anterior uveitis is the most common form of endogenous uveitis. Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract, a pigmented vascular layer that lies between the sclera and the retina. The main symptoms are photophobia, pain, erythema, decreased vision and tearing.

Reactive arthritis is an inflammation of one or more joints that appears as a reaction to an infection and which usually causes inflammation of the urinary and genital tract, the joints and eyes.

Inflammatory bowel disease refers to a group of disorders that predominantly affect the intestine and which are characterized by chronic inflammation, which tends not to subside. It brings together various diseases, but especially Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The existence of a genetic predisposition to various diseases in individuals carrying the HLA-B27 histocompatibility antigen has been demonstrated: ankylosing spondylitis, acute anterior uveitis, reactive arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease.
